The nodal centre for upgradation of Textile Education (NCUTE), Ministry of Textile, Government of India conducted a meeting in the Capital recently. The aim of the meet was to discuss the measures required to improve the quality of textile education in India. Coordinator, NCUTE, A K Gupta presided over the meeting which witnessed the presence of principals of leading textile colleges of India and vice chancellors (VC) of technological universities of Karnataka, Orissa and Punjab.
According to Gupta, in a competitive world, there was an urgent need for upgrading the course curriculum and create a platform for more institution-industry interaction. Some new academic programmes like B Tech in the relevant areas, were also suggested on the occasion. The vice chancellor, Visveswaraiah Technical University, Belgaum, K Balveera Reddy said regular teacher training programmes should be conducted and it was vital to upgrade teachers’ skills and depute them for industrial training.
